A safety overload clutch, also known as a safety or friction clutch, is used to protect the tractor, mini-tractor and attached accessories. In addition to its protective function, this clutch also serves as an extension of the cardan shaft by approximately 10 to 15 cm.
The clutch is a key protective element when working with equipment such as chippers, mulchers and other machines that can be overloaded or suddenly blocked. It is mounted directly on the cardan shaft or on the tractor's PTO shaft and protects the transmission by slipping when the set torque is exceeded and preventing kickback.
Inside the clutch are spring pins that release when the load is too high, which relieves the load - the clutch jumps and the transmitted power is safely interrupted. The number of spring rows corresponds to the required torque in the range of 400 to 2000 Nm.
This safety feature is especially important for machines with high inertia (such as mowing and mulching) or where sudden jamming can occur (such as chipping). Any sensible farmer who wants to extend the life of their tractor and implements should have this clutch in their equipment.
